When Ukama Packing first opened its doors for business in 2010. Oryx Desert Salt was one of our very first customers. Oryx harvests their pure natural salt from ancient underground streams in the pristine Kalahari desert. Their salt is naturally sun-dried with no additives, no anti-clumping agents and no preservatives. Oryx Desert Salt has all the essential minerals and trace elements that exist naturally in salt, including magnesium, zinc and potassium so important for vital health.
What’s great about packing for Oryx is that we get to pack salt in a large variety of different formats. We pack in refill boxes, cotton bags, glass grinders, as well as gift boxes and gift sets so there’s plenty of variety.
Melissa is the entrepreneur responsible for packing for Oryx Desert Salt and she employs a team of 5 people. She’s our youngest lady and runs one of our largest packing lines.
Oryx also donates their healthy salt for all the cooking needs of the Ukama Community Foundation’s Feeding Scheme which feeds 250 children aday from under-privileged creches.
It’s been wonderful to be part of the Oryx Desert Salt journey and success story, creating a sustainably produced South African gourmet salt that’s rapidly gaining an international footprint.
